Regular Season Round 47: Niigata Albirex - Toyama Grouses 79-76

There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Niigata Albirex (30-15) edged at home 3rd placed Toyama Grouses (31-14) 79-76 on Saturday. Toyama Grouses were tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. Niigata Albirex made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Toyama Grouses turnovers. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Niigata Albirex made 7 blocks. Americans were the main players on the court. It was a great evening for forward Thomas Kennedy (201-87, college: Detroit Mercy) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points and 6 rebounds. Center Patrick Sullivan (206-88, college: SE Louisiana, agency: Two Points) helped adding 12 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 15 rebounds and center Joe Werner (201-84, college: Wisc.-La Crosse) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Niigata Albirex have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 30-15 record. Toyama Grouses at the other side keep the third position with 14 games lost. Niigata Albirex will face again higher ranked Toyama Grouses (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
