Regular Season Round 48: Saitama Bron. - Gunma 64-72

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Saitama Broncos (5-39) were defeated at home by ninth ranked Gunma (16-28) 72-64 on Sunday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-18. But Saitama Broncos won second period 16-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Gunma won last quarter 21-14. Gunma outrebounded Saitama Broncos 37-26 including a 29-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Carlos Dixon (201-81, college: Virginia Tech) who scored 16 points and 7 rebounds. The other American import forward Melvin Ely (208-78, college: Fresno St.) chipped in 9 points and 13 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Vincentian power forward Nyika Williams (203-87, college: Pacific) who recorded a double-double by scoring 21 points and 10 rebounds and American forward Gary Johnson (198-91, college: Albany) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Gunma maintains ninth position with 16-28 record. Loser Saitama Broncos keep the twelfth place with 39 games lost. Gunma will face higher ranked Shinshu BW (#7) in Nagano in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Saitama Broncos will play at home against Shiga L-Stars (#4) and hope to win that game.
