Ninth-ranked Panteras (3-17) made lots of trouble for first ranked Marinos (17-3) in Caracas on Sunday. The visitors from Puerto La Cruz managed to secure only seven-point victory 98-91. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests were tied at the half and again at the end of regular time. But they managed to win overtime period 17-10. The best player for the winners was American center Brian Williams (208-87, college: Tennessee) who had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 13 rebounds. The former international point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Paris Global Sports) chipped in 14 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Marinos players scored in double figures. American point guard R.L. Horton (182-89, college: S.Mississippi) produced 25 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international swingman Jorge Rondon (193-90) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Marinos have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 17-3 record. Panteras lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with 17 games lost. Marinos will face league's second-placed Bucaneros in La Guaira in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Panteras will play on the road against Guaros (#4) in Barquisimeto and hope to win that game.
