Very expected game when 15th ranked VL Pesaro (7-17) was defeated on the road by third ranked Umana Venezia (18-6) 84-72. It looked good early as VL Pesaro took a 5-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Umana Venezia had a 18-7 second period charge getting the lead and VL Pesaro was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-84. Umana Venezia dominated on the defensive end, holding VL Pesaro to just 7 points in second quarter. They made 18-of-20 charity shots (90.0 percent) during the game. Umana Venezia players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. It was a good game for American point guard Julyan Stone (198-88, college: UTEP) who led his team to a victory with 7 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Austrian power forward Benjamin Ortner (206-83, college: Metro St.) contributed with 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Umana Venezia's coach Carlo Recalcati used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward LaQuinton Ross (203-92, college: Ohio St.) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Wally Judge (206-90, college: Rutgers) added 13 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for VL Pesaro. Four VL Pesaro players scored in double figures. Umana Venezia moved-up to second place. VL Pesaro at the other side keeps the fifteenth position with 17 games lost. Umana Venezia's next round opponent will be Trenkwalder RE (#4) in Reggio Emilia. VL Pesaro will play at home against Vanoli Cremona (#11) and hope to win that game.
