Regular Season Round 24: Elitzur Ashkelon - Maccabi K/G 75-90

Date: March 31, 2015
There was no surprise when 10th ranked Ironi Ashkelon (10-15) was defeated at home by third ranked Maccabi K/G (18-6) 90-75. The game was mostly controlled by Maccabi K/G. Ironi Ashkelon was better in second period 22-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Maccabi K/G dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Ironi Ashkelon's 32. They outrebounded Ironi Ashkelon 35-24 including 27 on the defensive glass. Maccabi K/G players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. The winners were led by American forward Terrence Watson (200-87, college: Ball St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds and the former international forward Jonhatan Nir (204-86, agency: Avi Zilberman) supported him with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Four Maccabi K/G players scored in double figures. Maccabi K/G's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 25 points and 5 rebounds by American guard Marcus Moore (198-80, college: Washington St., agency: Laszlo Vinko Group) did not help to save the game for Ironi Ashkelon. Dudu Shamriz (191-91) added 22 points. Maccabi K/G moved-up to second place, which they share with Hapoel Migd.H. Ironi Ashkelon at the other side keeps the tenth position with 15 games lost. Maccabi K/G's next round opponent will be Maccabi Raanana (#12) at home and are hoping to win another game. Ironi Ashkelon will play against Hapoel Kfar Saba and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
