Regular Season Round 25: Hapoel T-A - Maccabi Ashdod 95-86

Very expected game when 11th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (7-18) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Hapoel Tel-Aviv (14-11) 95-86 on Thursday. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 25-15. But Maccabi Ashdod won second period 26-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Hapoel Tel-Aviv won last quarter 24-17. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American Larry O'Bannon (192-83, college: Louisville, agency: Interperformances) stepped up and scored 25 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and the former international Raviv Limonad (191-84) chipped in 19 points and 9 assists. At the losing side American forward James Nunnally (201-90, college: UCSB) responded with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and U.S. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rican forward Ivan Aska (200-90, college: Murray St., agency: Comsport) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 12 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hapoel Tel-Aviv moved-up to third place, which they share with Hapoel Holon. Maccabi Ashdod at the other side dropped to the bottom position with 18 games lost. Hapoel Tel-Aviv's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tel-Aviv to the arena Maccabi T-A.
