Very important is a home loss of first ranked Aishin Sea Horses (38-8) against fourth ranked Toyota Alvark (31-14) on Saturday night. Host Aishin Sea Horses were defeated by Toyota Alvark in a tough game in Kariya 80-85. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 85-80. American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) fired a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds for the winners. His fellow American import forward Michael Parker (202-81, college: Evergreen St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Toyota Alvark's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Guard Ryoma Hashimoto (178-88) produced 18 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and the former international center J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) added 4 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists respectively for lost side. Four Aishin Sea Horses players scored in double figures. The victory was the fourteenth consecutive win for Toyota Alvark. They maintain fourth place with 31-14 record. Loser Aishin Sea Horses still keep top position with eight games lost. Toyota Alvark will meet higher ranked Dragonflies (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Aishin Sea Horses will play against the league's leader Hitachi Sunrockers in Tokyo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
