Regular Season Round 43: Aishin SH - Toyota Alvark 86-92

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Aishin Sea Horses (38-8) in Kariya on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Toyota Alvark (31-14) 92-86. The guests trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 46-37 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Toyota Alvark looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Jeff Gibbs (188-80, college: Otterbein) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. His fellow American import forward Michael Parker (202-81, college: Evergreen St.) helped adding 21 points. Toyota Alvark's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international center J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) responded with 30 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and international swingman Kosuke Kanamaru (193-89) scored 22 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws). Five Toyota Alvark and four Aishin Sea Horses players scored in double figures. Toyota Alvark have an impressive series of fourteen victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 31-14 record. Aishin Sea Horses at the other side still keep top position with eight games lost. Toyota Alvark are looking forward to face higher ranked Dragonflies (#3) in Hiroshima in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Aishin Sea Horses will play on the road against the league's leader Hitachi Sunrockers in Tokyo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
