Regular Season Round 29: Guaros - Gigantes 81-73

There was no surprise in Barquisimeto where 8th ranked Gigantes (8-16) were defeated by second ranked Guaros (18-7) 81-73. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-12. But Gigantes won second period 21-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. International point guard Heissler Guillent (186-86) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 assists. American swingman Kim English (200-88, college: Missouri) contributed with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Five Guaros players scored in double figures. American forward Herbert Hill (208-84, college: Providence) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds and naturalized Colombian point guard Fernando Lucena (185-86) added 18 points in the effort for Gigantes. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Guaros. They maintain second place with 18-7 record having just -3 point less than leader Marinos. Gigantes at the other side keep the eighth position with 16 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
