There was no surprise when 12th ranked Maccabi Raanana (8-17) lost to third ranked Maccabi K/G (19-6) in Kiryat Gat 88-96 on Tuesday. Maccabi Raanana trailed by 18 points at halftime and as many as 26 after three quarters before a 35-17 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 88-96 at the end of the game. Maccabi K/G looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists. Maccabi Raanana was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a very good performance for American forward Terrence Watson (200-87, college: Ball St.) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks. The former international forward Jonhatan Nir (204-86, agency: Avi Zilberman) contributed with 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Five Maccabi K/G players scored in double figures. American forward Eric Wise (198-90, college: USC) answered with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 4 assists and American-Puerto Rican Alex Franklin (196-88, college: Siena) added 21 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists in the effort for Maccabi Raanana. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Maccabi K/G. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Hapoel Migd.H. Maccabi Raanana at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the twelfth position with 17 games lost. Maccabi K/G will face Hapoel Kazrin (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Maccabi Raanana will play against Hapoel Kfar Saba (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
