Regular Season Round 31: Gaiteros - Marinos 81-90

Date: April 9, 2015
LPB top team - Marinos (20-4) managed to deliver another win on Thursday. This time they beat tenth ranked Gaiteros (3-21) in Maracaibo 90-81. Gaiteros trailed by 13 points at halftime and as many as 14 after three quarters before a 26-21 last quarter charge cut the deficit to 81-90 at the end of the game. Marinos looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Gaiteros' players. It was a great evening for American swingman Aaron Harper (203-81, college: Mississippi) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import center Brian Williams (208-87, college: Tennessee) helped adding 16 points and 10 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field). At the losing side Nigerian-American power forward Reggie Okosa (208-80, college: La Salle) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds and American guard Tierre Brown (188-79, college: McNeese St., agency: Haylett Sports) scored 19 points. Gaiteros' coach Manuel Berroteran rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains first place with 20-4 record. Gaiteros at the other side stay dead last with 21 lost games. Marinos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gaiteros will play on the road against Bucaneros (#3) in La Guaira and are hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
