Second Stage Round 10: Muggia - Stabia 40-70

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Muggia (1-7) was outleveled at home by first ranked Castellammare (6-2) 70-40 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Castellammare. Muggia was better in second period 13-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Muggia to just 4 points in fourth quarter and to 14 points in second half. Castellammare dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Muggia's 24. They outrebounded Muggia 46-24 including a 30-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Quite impressive performance for Bulgarian power forward Diana Voynova (194-88, college: Duquesne) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 23 points and 18 rebounds. Point guard Raffaella Potolicchio (169-90) contributed with 14 points for the winners. Forward Alice Policastro (180-86) replied with 8 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Elena Capolicchio (169-92) added 9 points in the effort for Muggia. Muggia's coach Mauro Trani gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Newly promoted Castellammare maintains first position in A2 with 6-2 record. Loser Muggia keeps the seventh place with seven games lost. Castellammare will have a break next round. Muggia will play on the road against the league's second-placed San Salvatore (#2) and hope to win that game.
