Regular Season Round 33: Marinos - Toros 72-55

Leader Marinos delivered the twenty first win on Sunday night. This time they beat 7th ranked Toros (9-16) 72-55 in Puerto La Cruz. The game was mostly controlled by Marinos. Toros managed to win fourth quarter 16-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Toros to just 6 points in second quarter. They outrebounded Toros 54-31 including a 26-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Marcus Melvin (206-82, college: N.Carolina St.) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. His fellow American import swingman Aaron Harper (203-81, college: Mississippi) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international center Alejandro Barrios (204-79) who recorded 9 points and 5 rebounds and guard Elder Gimenez (186-91) added 9 points respectively. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Marinos have a solid series of three victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 21-4 record. Toros at the other side keep the seventh position with 16 games lost. Marinos are again looking forward to face Toros (#7) in Maracay in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Toros will have a break next round.
