Regular Season Round 44: Hitachi SR - Aishin SH 60-53

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of Aishin Sea Horses (39-8) in Tokyo on Sunday night. Visitors were defeated by Hitachi Sunrockers (39-8) 60-53. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 15-10. But Aishin Sea Horses won second period 13-9. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Aishin Sea Horses 51-36 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American power forward Joshua Heytvelt (210-86, college: Gonzaga) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points and 16 rebounds. International power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85, agency: N.E.T.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points and 16 rebounds. The former international center J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) produced 7 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and American power forward Gavin Edwards (206-88, college: Connecticut) added 9 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the guests. Hitachi Sunrockers have an impressive 12-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 39-8 record, which they share with Aishin SH. Hitachi Sunrockers is looking forward to face Dragonflies (#3) in Hiroshima in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Aishin Sea Horses will play at home against Chiba Jets and are hoping to win this game.
