Regular Season Round 51: Iwate Big Bulls - Saitama Bron. 108-47

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Saitama Broncos (5-43) were crushed on the road by first ranked Iwate Big Bulls (39-9) 108-47 on Sunday. The game without a history. Iwate Big Bulls led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Saitama Broncos to just 7 points in first quarter. Iwate Big Bulls dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Saitama Broncos' 26. They outrebounded Saitama Broncos 39-24 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Iwate Big Bulls looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Saitama Broncos' players. The best player for the winners was American swingman Wayne Arnold (193-84, college: Tennessee St.) who scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Lawrence Blackledge (206-86, college: Marquette) chipped in 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Blackledge is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Iwate Big Bulls players scored in double figures. Iwate Big Bulls' coach Dai Oketani felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Gary Johnson (198-91, college: Albany) who recorded 8 points and 8 rebounds and forward Otsuka Shun (190-87) added 8 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Iwate Big Bulls have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 39-9 record, which they share with Okinawa GK. Saitama Broncos lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the twelfth position with 43 games lost. Iwate Big Bulls will face league's second-placed Akita Happinets on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Saitama Broncos will play against Yokohama BC (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
