Regular Season Round 35: Guaiqueries - Marinos 91-83

The most surprising game was another loss of top-ranked Marinos (21-6) in Porlamar on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by sixth ranked Guaiqueries (15-10) 91-83. The hosts trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back getting tie in the second period and winning the second half and won the game by 8 points. Guaiqueries made 36-of-47 free shots (76.6 percent) during the game, while Marinos only scored six points from the stripe. 33 personal fouls committed by Marinos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-91) who led his team to a victory scoring 31 points. American center Dwayne Jones (211-83, college: St.Joseph's) helped adding 10 points and 19 rebounds. Four Guaiqueries players scored in double figures. American swingman Aaron Harper (203-81, college: Mississippi) responded with 25 points and 5 rebounds and the former international point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Paris Global Sports) scored 14 points and 5 assists. Marinos' coach Fernando Duro rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Guaiqueries moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Trotamundos. Defending champion Marinos still keep top position with six games lost. Guaiqueries is again looking forward to face league's leader Marinos in Puerto La Cruz in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Marinos will have a break next round.
