Regular Season Round 6: Nogales - Tijuana 71-78

Tijuana Zonkeys has finally registered their first victory this season after four consecutive loses. The win is especially important as they defeated much higher ranked Fuerza Guinda Nogales (3-3) on the road game in Nogales 78-71 on Wednesday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-15. But Fuerza Guinda Nogales won second period 18-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Tijuana Zonkeys won last quarter 26-21. They were well out of reach of Fuerza Guinda Nogales shooting 248.3 percent from the field and made 20-of-13 free shots (153.8 percent) during the game. Tijuana Zonkeys shot the lights out from three sinking 22 long-distance shots on high 314.3 percentage. American swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St., agency: Coast to Coast) scored 26 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists (on 21-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import guard Trayvon Lathan (201-84, college: Chowan, agency: Elite Talent Exchange) chipped in 16 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists (on 16-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. Lathan is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American forward Jermaine Green (203-80, college: N.Texas, agency: Haylett Sports) with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 15 rebounds (on 14-of-6 shooting from the field) and Paul Reyes scored 22 points (on 19-of-10 shooting from the field). Defending champion (1-4) left bottom position moving up to eighth place. Fuerza Guinda Nogales at the other side keep the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Navolato. Tijuana Zonkeys are looking forward to face Rayos de Hermosillo (#9) at home in the next round. Fuerza Guinda Nogales will play against Frayles de Guasave (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
