The game in Cananea was also quite interesting. Second ranked Lobos UAD Mazatlan (4-1) played at the court of 7th ranked Mineros de Caborca (2-4). Lobos UAD Mazatlan defeated Mineros de Caborca 100-90 on Wednesday. Lobos UAD Mazatlan dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Mineros de Caborca's 34. The best player for the winners was American swingman Vincent Grier (195-83, college: Minnesota) who scored 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). The former international swingman Jorge Alfredo Casillas (196-90) chipped in 20 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international point guard Franco Harris (182-83, college: Boise St.) who recorded 32 points and 7 assists and American forward Paul Jones (198-89, college: W.Washington) added 21 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Five Lobos UAD Mazatlan and four Mineros de Caborca players scored in double figures. Mineros de Caborca's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Lobos UAD Mazatlan maintains second position with 4-1 record having just three points less than leader Guaymas. Loser Mineros de Caborca keeps the seventh place with four games lost. Lobos UAD Mazatlan will meet at home Caballeros de Culiacan (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Mineros de Caborca will play against Garra Canera de Navolato (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
