We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 8th ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (1-5) were defeated at home by ninth ranked Rayos de Hermosillo (2-5) 106-98 on Friday. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-14. But Tijuana Zonkeys won second period 26-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Rayos de Hermosillo made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. The game was dominated by American players. Guard Luke Martinez (193-90, college: Wyoming) fired 31 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Guard Durrell Summers (193-89, college: Michigan St.) chipped in 27 points and 5 rebounds. Swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St., agency: Coast to Coast) produced 32 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists and guard Trayvon Lathan (201-84, college: Chowan, agency: Elite Talent Exchange) added 11 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Rayos de Hermosillo moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Caborca. Defending champion Tijuana Zonkeys dropped to the ninth position with five games lost. Rayos de Hermosillo will have a break next round. Tijuana Zonkeys will play again at home against Rayos de Hermosillo (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
