Regular Season Round 52: Toyama Grouses - Fukushima 88-73

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Toyama Grouses (33-16) beat at home 7th ranked Fukushima (19-30) 88-73 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Toyama Grouses. Fukushima was better in second period 20-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Toyama Grouses dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Fukushima's 42. They outrebounded Fukushima 50-35 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. American players dominated the game. It was a very good performance for center Joe Werner (201-84, college: Wisc.-La Crosse) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 27 rebounds. Forward Sam Willard (205-88, college: Pacific) contributed with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds for the winners. Guard Verdell Jones III (195-89, college: Indiana) replied with 23 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and power forward Edward Morris (205-84, college: Pittsburg St.) added 18 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Fukushima. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Toyama Grouses maintains fifth position with 33-16 record. Newly promoted Fukushima dropped to the sixth place with 30 games lost. Toyama Grouses will face again Fukushima (#7) at home in the next round.
