Regular Season Round 53: Sendai 89ers - Shinshu BW 96-83

Very expected game when 8th ranked Shinshu BW (19-31) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked Sendai 89ers (34-15) 96-83 on Sunday. It was a very close game until the last quarter, when Sendai 89ers's pressure prevailed and they won that period 30-19 extending their advantage to 13 points. American guard Kejuan Johnson (193-85, college: Long Beach St., agency: Inception Sports) stepped up and scored 24 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import center Jeral Davis (216-84) chipped in 15 points and 10 rebounds. Davis is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Five Sendai 89ers players scored in double figures. American forward DeVaughn Washington (202-89, college: Ohio) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and American-Somalian forward Mohamed Abukar (208-85, college: San Diego St., agency: Two Points) scored 26 points and 5 rebounds. Shinshu BW's coach Ryuji Kawai rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sendai 89ers maintains fourth place with 34-15 record. Shinshu BW lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the seventh position with 31 games lost. They share it with Fukushima. Sendai 89ers will meet Aomori Watts (#6) on the road in the next round. Shinshu BW will play against Fukushima and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
