Regular Season Round 54: Akita NH - Saitama Bron. 99-71

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Akita Happinets as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Akita Happinets smashed 11th ranked Saitama Broncos at home 99-71. The game was mostly controlled by Akita Happinets. Saitama Broncos managed to win fourth quarter 22-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Akita Happinets looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. American swingman Richard Roby (198-85) scored 14 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Shigehiro Taguchi (184-90) chipped in 20 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Gary Johnson (198-91, college: Albany) with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and point guard Koji Nagata (180-81) scored 10 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Saitama Broncos' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Hamamatsu P. and Iwate Big Bulls. Saitama Broncos at the other side keep the eleventh place with 45 games lost. Saitama Broncos will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Akita Happinets will try to continue on its current victory against eleventh ranked Saitama Broncos at home.
