Regular Season Round 12: Mazatlan - Los Mochis 87-71

Date: April 25, 2015
Very expected game when 10th ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (2-10) were defeated on the road by second ranked Lobos UAD Mazatlan (8-3) 87-71 on Saturday. The game without a history. Lobos UAD Mazatlan led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Pioneros Los Mochis' 34. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Steve Monreal (180-86, college: CS Monterey) who helped to win the game recording 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and American swingman Vincent Grier (195-83, college: Minnesota) who added 17 points, 5 assists and 6 steals during the contest. Four Lobos UAD Mazatlan players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Melquan Bolding (190-88, college: Fair Dickinson) with 24 points and his fellow American import center Mike Martin (201-85, college: Chico St.) scored 21 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Lobos UAD Mazatlan maintains second position with 8-3 record having four points less than leader Guaymas. Loser Pioneros Los Mochis stay at the bottom place with ten games lost. Lobos UAD Mazatlan will face Frayles de Guasave (#6) on the road in the next round. Pioneros Los Mochis will play against Rayos de Hermosillo (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
