Regular Season Round 24: AGOR - AEK Athens 80-79

The most exciting game of round 24 in the A1 took place in Rethymno. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked AEK Athens (14-10) to seventh ranked AGOR (13-11) 80-79 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of AEK Athens. AEK Athens was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. The best player for the winners was Dutch power forward Roeland Schaftenaar (211-88, college: Oregon St.) who scored 27 points and 6 rebounds. The former international guard Giannis Kalambokis (195-78, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 17 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Malik Hairston (198-87, college: Oregon) who recorded 22 points and naturalized Serbian Dusan Sakota (210-86, agency: Beo Basket) added 14 points respectively. AEK Athens' coach Dragan Sakota rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. AGOR moved-up to sixth place. Newly promoted AEK Athens keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. AGOR are looking forward to face Aiolos Trikallon (#12) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. AEK Athens will play against PAOK (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
