Thirteenth-ranked Azpeitia (8-20) used its home court advantage to challenge ninth ranked Fontedoso Carrefour (15-13) on Saturday. The visitors from Avila managed to secure only one-point victory 90-89. However their fans expected much easier game. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 90-89. Strangely Azpeitia outrebounded Fontedoso Carrefour 35-16 including 24 on the defensive glass. Forward Sergio Rodriguez (195-93) notched 27 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and guard Alejandro Marin (190-88) supported him with 20 points. Even a double-double of 19 points and 10 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) by American forward Brandon Garrett (206-90, college: Murray St., agency: Duran International) did not help to save the game for Azpeitia. U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Devon Peltier (181-87, college: CS Fullerton) added 22 points. Four Fontedoso Carrefour and five Azpeitia players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Fontedoso Carrefour maintains ninth position with 15-13 record. Loser Azpeitia keeps the thirteenth place with 20 games lost.
