Regular Season Round 46: Tsukuba R. - Aishin SH 79-90

Very expected game when 5th ranked Tsukuba R. (6-45) was defeated at home by first ranked Aishin Sea Horses (42-10) 90-79 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Aishin Sea Horses. Tsukuba R. was better in third quarter 27-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Aishin Sea Horses dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Tsukuba R.'s 52. American power forward Gavin Edwards (206-88, college: Connecticut) had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and the former international center J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) chipped in 15 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Four Aishin Sea Horses players scored in double figures. At the losing side American forward Duke Crews (203-88, college: Bowie St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds and point guard Kazuyuki Nakagawa (180-82) scored 23 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Aishin Sea Horses have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 42-10 record. Tsukuba R. lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with 45 games lost. Aishin Sea Horses will face league's second-placed Mitsubishi Dolphins in Nagoya in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Tsukuba R. will play at home against the league's second-placed Tochigi Brex and hope to win that game.
