Second Stage Round 8: Antwerp - Mons-Hainaut 84-92

The biggest surprise of round 8 was guest Belfius Mons-Hainaut's (16-12) road victory over one of their biggest challengers Antwerp Giants (15-13) 92-84 on Sunday evening. It was a key game for the second position in League. Antwerp Giants trailed by 16 points after 3 quarters before a 28-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 84-92 at the end of the game. Belfius Mons-Hainaut dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Antwerp Giants' 32. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Mike Smith (198-87, college: E.Tenn.St.) who scored 22 points and 5 rebounds. Forward Jamie Skeen (205-88, college: VCU) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard DeAndre Kane (193-89, college: Iowa St.) produced 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Benjamin Simons (203-91, college: Drake) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Belfius Mons-Hainaut moved-up to second place in League. Antwerp Giants at the other side dropped to the sixth position with 13 games lost. Belfius Mons-Hainaut are looking forward to face league's leader Oostende at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Antwerp Giants will play against Okapi Aalstar (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
