Regular Season Round 28: Vanoli CR - Umana VE 84-91

Everything went according to plan when second ranked Umana Venezia (21-7) won against on the road 10th ranked Vanoli Cremona (12-16) 91-84. It looked good early as Vanoli Cremona took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Umana Venezia had a 26-10 second period charge getting the lead and Vanoli Cremona was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 84-91. Strangely Vanoli Cremona outrebounded Umana Venezia 37-23 including 23 on the defensive glass. They shot the lights out from three nailing 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. It was a very good performance for American point guard Phil Goss (188-83, college: Drexel) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 6 assists. The former international swingman Jeffrey Viggiano (197-84, college: Massachusetts, agency: SPORTlab Agency) contributed with 21 points for the winners. Five Umana Venezia players scored in double figures. American swingman James Bell (198-92, college: Villanova) replied with 18 points and 5 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Kenny Hayes (188-87, college: Miami, OH) added 18 points and 4 assists in the effort for Vanoli Cremona. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Umana Venezia have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 21-7 record having just three points less than leader EA7 Armani. Vanoli Cremona at the other side keeps the tenth place with 16 games lost. They share the position with Virtus Acea. Umana Venezia will play against Banco di Srd (#5) in Sassari in the next round. Vanoli Cremona will play on the road against Air Avellino (#13) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
