Regular Season Round 14: Guasave - Mazatlan 92-90

Important game to mention about took place in Guasave. Fourth ranked Frayles de Guasave (8-6) saved a 2-point victory at home edging second-ranked Lobos UAD Mazatlan (8-5) 92-90 on Wednesday evening. It looked good early as Lobos UAD Mazatlan took a 3-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Frayles de Guasave had a 20-16 second period charge getting the lead and Lobos UAD Mazatlan was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 90-92. Frayles de Guasave players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American point guard Carl Jones (180-91, college: St.Joseph's, agency: Mansfield and Associates) scored 28 points and 7 assists to lead the charge for the winners and guard Victor Buelna (192-78) chipped in 19 points and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) during the contest. The former international swingman Jorge Alfredo Casillas (196-90) responded with 24 points and 5 rebounds and the former international point guard Steve Monreal (180-86, college: CS Monterey) scored 16 points and 6 assists. Four Frayles de Guasave and five Lobos UAD Mazatlan players scored in double figures. Frayles de Guasave moved-up to third place, which they share with Nogales. Newly promoted Lobos UAD Mazatlan keeps the second position with five games lost. Frayles de Guasave will play against league's leader Ostioneros de Guaymas on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Lobos UAD Mazatlan will play against Fuerza Guinda Nogales and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
