Regular Season Round 9: Shaanxi W. - Guayzhou 89-97 OT

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Shaanxi W. (7-1) in Xian. Hosts were defeated by Guayzhou (7-1) in overtime 97-89. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Shaanxi W.. It was a key game for the top position in the league. It looked good early as Shaanxi W. took a 10-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Guayzhou took control and eventually winning the game that evening in overtime by 8 points. Guayzhou had a 37-26 advantage in offensive rebounds. Shaanxi W. was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Tyler Wilkerson (203-88, college: Marshall) nailed a double-double by scoring 43 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds for the winning side and swingman Delong Weng (195-87) accounted for 19 points and 9 rebounds. Guayzhou's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Center ChunJun Zhang (197-87) came up with 20 points and 8 rebounds and American power forward Walter Sharpe (206-86, college: UAB) added 16 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Shaanxi W. in the defeat. Four Shaanxi W. players scored in double figures. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Guayzhou. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Anhui and Shaanxi W. Guayzhou will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Shaanxi W. will play against Guangxi and hopes to get back on the winning track.
