Regular Season Round 12: Llaneros - Aguilas 87-79

An interesting game for Llaneros (11-2) which hosted in one of their biggest challengers Patriotas (8-5). Second ranked Llaneros managed to get a 8-point victory 87-79. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Patriotas. Patriotas trailed by 13 points after 3 quarters before a 25-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 79-87 at the end of the game. Llaneros looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Patriotas' players. The winners were led by Mexican-Puerto Rican guard Joseph Soto (190-93) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 16 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists and Luis Hernandez supported him with 20 points and 8 rebounds. Five Llaneros players scored in double figures. Llaneros' coach Ramon Melendez used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 30 points and 7 rebounds by American Jereal Scott (203-89, college: SF Austin) did not help to save the game for Patriotas. Nigerian-American guard Henry Uhegwu (191-82, college: S.Utah) added 13 points. Llaneros have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 11-2 record having just two points less than leader Bucaros. Defending champion Patriotas keep the third place with five games lost. They share the position with Astros. Llaneros will again meet at home Patriotas (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Patriotas will have a break next round.
