We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when seventh ranked Halcones (6-10) won against 6th ranked Academia (8-9) in Cucuta 91-84 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 1 point at the halftime before their 51-43 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Halcones outrebounded Academia 50-30 including a 19-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for point guard Jorge Leon (188-79) who led his team to a victory with 26 points and 5 rebounds. Jose Manaures contributed with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Five Halcones players scored in double figures. Puerto Rican-Dominican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) answered with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and American-Dominican point guard Cesar Chavez Jacobo (196-85, college: St.Thomas, FL) added 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Academia. Newly promoted Halcones maintains seventh place with 6-10 record, which they share with Manizales. Academia at the other side keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Halcones will face Once Caldas (#8) in Manizales in the next round.
