The game in Cucuta was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Piratas (10-6) played at the court of 7th ranked Halcones (6-10). Piratas defeated Halcones 95-84 on Tuesday. The game was mostly controlled by Piratas. Halcones was better in third quarter 19-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Piratas forced 21 Halcones turnovers. It was a good game for American guard Brandon Givens (198-87, college: NC-Wesleyan) who led his team to a victory with 34 points (!!!). Venezuelan forward Jhon Romero (199-85) contributed with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Givens is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. point guard Jorge Leon (188-79) answered with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists and Jose Manaures added 17 points and 6 assists in the effort for Halcones. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Piratas moved-up to third place, which they share with Aguilas. Newly promoted Halcones keep the seventh position with ten games lost. Piratas will have a break next round. Halcones will play on the road against Once Caldas (#8) in Manizales and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
