Rather expected game when 7th ranked Halcones (6-10) lost to fourth ranked Piratas (10-6) in Bogota 89-98 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 98-89. Piratas forced 22 Halcones turnovers. It was a good game for American guard Brandon Givens (198-87, college: NC-Wesleyan) who led his team to a victory with 32 points and 4 assists. The former international guard Stalin Ortiz (190-81, college: Valparaiso) contributed with 21 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Givens is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Jose Manaures answered with 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Venezuelan swingman Jesus Medina (188-94) added 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Halcones. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Piratas moved-up to third place, which they share with Aguilas. Newly promoted Halcones keep the seventh position with ten games lost. Piratas will have a break next round. Halcones will play on the road against Once Caldas (#8) in Manizales and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
