The game in Manizales was quite interesting. 7th ranked Halcones (6-11) played at the court of eighth ranked Once Caldas (7-10). Once Caldas defeated Halcones 94-78 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Once Caldas. Halcones managed to win fourth quarter 31-29. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Once Caldas had a 39-23 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Halcones' players. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Deion Turman (203, college: Wingate) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds and the other American import forward Carlos Smith (206-90, college: Bowie St.) who added 16 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Once Caldas' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Venezuelan swingman Jesus Medina (188-94) responded with 18 points and 6 rebounds and Venezuelan forward Albert Arias (194-89) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds. Four Halcones players scored in double figures. Once Caldas moved-up to seventh place. Halcones lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the eighth position with 11 games lost. Once Caldas are again looking forward to face Halcones (#8) in Cucuta in the next round. Halcones will have a break next round.
