The game between closely ranked teams ended with 8th ranked Halcones' (6-12) road loss to seventh ranked Once Caldas (8-10) 74-93 on Saturday. The game without a history. Once Caldas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Once Caldas outrebounded Halcones 47-34 including 34 on the defensive glass. Canadian guard Shamar Coombs (185-86, college: Texas A&M-CC) stepped up and scored 28 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and American forward Carlos Smith (206-90, college: Bowie St.) chipped in 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Five Once Caldas players scored in double figures. Jose Manaures responded with 22 points and 8 rebounds and Venezuelan power forward Jesus Martinez (204-86) scored 10 points, 9 rebounds and 5 blocks. Halcones' coach rotated ten players seeing no chance for a win. Once Caldas maintains seventh place with 8-10 record. Halcones lost their fourth game in a row. Newly promoted team keep the eighth position with 12 games lost. Once Caldas will meet higher ranked Piratas (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Halcones will have a break next round.
