Regular Season Round 19: Aguilas - Academia 75-80

The game between third ranked Patriotas (12-7) and seventh ranked Academia (9-9) was the most important one in the last round on Friday night. Patriotas were defeated by Academia in a tough game in Boyaca 75-80. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Patriotas. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 80-75. Academia outrebounded Patriotas 49-33 including a 38-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Patriotas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a great evening for the former international power forward Divier Perez (201-89) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 20 rebounds. Puerto Rican Joel Rodriguez helped adding 18 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists. Academia's coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American guard Michael Sneed (196-82, college: Texas Southern) responded with 24 points and 9 rebounds and the other American import guard Eddy Barlow (185-81, college: Sam Houston St.) scored 12 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Academia and four Patriotas players scored in double figures. Academia moved-up to sixth place. Defending champion Patriotas keep the third position with seven games lost. They share it with Piratas. Academia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Patriotas will play again at home against Academia and are hoping to win this game.
