Regular Season Round 5: Sendai 89ers - Tokyo Cinq R. 85-66

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Sendai 89ers as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Sendai 89ers smashed bottom-ranked Tokyo Cinq R. at home 85-66. The game was mostly controlled by Sendai 89ers. Tokyo Cinq R. managed to win fourth quarter 24-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sendai 89ers dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Tokyo Cinq R.'s 32. Sendai 89ers forced 19 Tokyo Cinq R. turnovers. American power forward Jamal Boykin (203-87, college: California) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds. His fellow American import guard Masaharu Kataoka (190-85) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Sendai 89ers' coach Shuto Kawachi used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Senegalese-American center El Hadji Ndieguene (208-90, college: Co.Carolina) answered with a double-double by scoring 11 points and 19 rebounds and American center John Florveus (211-90, college: Georgia) added 10 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Tokyo Cinq R.Sendai 89ers have a solid series of four victories in a row. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Shimane SM. Tokyo Cinq R. at the other side still closes the standings with three games lost. They share the position with Hiroshima L.. Tokyo Cinq R. will play next round against Yokohama BC trying to get back on the winning streak. Sendai 89ers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
