A very close game took place in Tampere between Helsinki Seagulls and Tampereen Pyrinto. Eighth ranked Helsinki Seagulls (1-2) got a very close victory on the road over 6th ranked Tampereen Pyrinto (2-2). Helsinki Seagulls managed to escape with a 2-point win 74-72 on Friday evening. The guests trailed by 9 points at the halftime before their 23-11 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Helsinki Seagulls forced 20 Tampereen Pyrinto turnovers. Strangely Tampereen Pyrinto outrebounded Helsinki Seagulls 45-31 including a 37-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of American guard Jason Conley (196-81, college: Missouri) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 9 rebounds and the former international Carl Lindbom (206-91) who added 13 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Conley is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Helsinki Seagulls players scored in double figures. At the losing side American swingman Akeem Wright (200-84, college: Kansas St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Damon Williams (201-73, college: Colorado St.-Pueblo, agency: Two Points) scored 6 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Helsinki Seagulls left bottom position moving up to seventh place. Loser Tampereen Pyrinto keeps the sixth position with two games lost. Helsinki Seagulls will meet at home bottom-ranked KTP-Basket (#10) in the next round. Tampereen Pyrinto will have a break next round.
