Regular Season Round 2: Brindisi - Irpino 53-62

Not a big story in a game when Brindisi (0-2) was defeated at home by Irpino (2-0) 62-53 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 16-9. But Brindisi won second period 16-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Irpino forced 27 Brindisi turnovers. Strangely Brindisi outrebounded Irpino 43-31 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Brindisi was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Point guard Rosa Cupido (173-92) scored 21 points and 5 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and naturalized Argentinian guard Valentina Maggi (174-85) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Irpino players scored in double figures. Irpino's coach Iris Ferazzoli used entire bench saving starting five for next games. The former international swingman Valentina Siccardi (182-82) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds and Spanish center Deborah Rodriguez (187-89) produced a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Irpino will face Empoli on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Brindisi will play against San Pietro and hope to win that game.
