Regular Season Round 5: CD Puerto Varas - AB Ancud 94-108

There was a minor upset when higher ranked CD Puerto Varas (2-2) lost at home to tenth ranked AB Ancud (2-2) 108-94 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by AB Ancud. CD Puerto Varas managed to win third quarter 27-19. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Venezuelan forward Juan Coronado (203-90, college: Liberty) nailed a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winning side and the former international point guard Evandro Arteaga (178-83) accounted for 28 points. Four AB Ancud players scored in double figures. The former international forward Gerardo Isla (201-91, college: Columbia, MO) came up with 27 points and the former international power forward Renato Vera (199-87) added 26 points respectively for CD Puerto Varas in the defeat. CD Puerto Varas' coach Gaston Fernandez let to play twelve players and allowed the starting five to rest. AB Ancud moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 5 other teams including defeated CD Puerto Varas. AB Ancud will meet Deportivo Valdivia (#6) on the road in the next round. CD Puerto Varas will play against CD Castro and hope to secure a win.
