Regular Season Round 5: Gran Canaria - CREF Hola 55-83

No shocking result in a game when eighth ranked CREF Hola (3-2) crushed 13th ranked Gran Canaria (1-4) in Las Palmas 83-55 on Saturday. The game without a history. CREF Hola led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. CREF Hola forced 20 Gran Canaria turnovers. American forward Lyndra Weaver (185-87, college: Virginia) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds. Point guard Sandra Ygueravide (172-84, agency: Josep and Nicolas) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Four CREF Hola players scored in double figures. Czech forward Michaela Stejskalova (186-87) answered with 15 points and Serbian power forward Nevena Markovic (193-93, college: IUPUI) added 8 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Gran Canaria. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. CREF Hola moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Ferrol and Conquero. Gran Canaria lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the twelfth position with four games lost. CREF Hola will face Mann Filter (#11) in Zaragoza in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Gran Canaria will play on the road against Cadi La Seu in Seu D'urgell and hope to win that game.
