Regular Season Round 3: El Olivar - Avila 93-80

The most surprising game was a loss of Fontedoso Carrefour (3-0) in Zaragoza on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by El Olivar (1-2) 93-80. The hosts trailed by 13 points after first quarter, but they stormed back and won the game by 13 points. El Olivar looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a good game for American guard Tyler Gaffaney (193-92, college: Claremont-Mudd) who led his team to a victory with 21 points and 4 assists. Lithuanian forward Zygimantas Riauka (206-93, college: Wisc.-Parkside) contributed with 17 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Gaffaney is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four El Olivar players scored in double figures. American-Nigerian guard Bryant Mbamalu (191-91, college: La-Lafayette, agency: Duran International) answered with 20 points (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) and point guard Alvaro Lobo (192-92, agency: Duran International) added 14 points in the effort for Fontedoso Carrefour. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. El Olivar is looking forward to face Marin (#10) on the road in the next round. Fontedoso Carrefour will play against Meridiano Alicante (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
