Regular Season Round 2: Gipuzkoa - Real Madrid 61-94
Date: October 18, 2015
Gipuzkoa was not able to use a home court advantage and was crushed by the opponent from Madrid 94-61 on Sunday night. The guests trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 18-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 94-61. Real Madrid dominated on the defensive end, holding Gipuzkoa to just 7 points in third quarter. They outrebounded Gipuzkoa 35-17 including a 30-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Real Madrid looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Sergio Rodriguez (191-86) who scored 17 points and 8 assists. American-Azerbaijani guard Jaycee Carroll (188-83, agency: Priority Sports) chipped in 19 points. Croatian forward Zoran Vrkic (203-87) produced 16 points and British point guard Andrew Lawrence (185-90, college: Charleston, agency: Two Points) added 8 points respectively for the hosts. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Real Madrid will face CB Canarias in Tenerife in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gipuzkoa will play at home against Bilbao Basket and hope to win that game.
