Regular Season Round 5: Caen - Vitre 83-74

There was a small surprise when fourteenth ranked Caen (2-3) won against at home 11th ranked Vitre (2-3) 83-74 on Tuesday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Vitre won third quarter 14-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Caen looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American swingman Jovonni Shuler (195-87, college: Savannah St., agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 9 rebounds. Naturalized Portuguese guard Philippe Da Silva (190-79) contributed with 8 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. Shuler is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Caen's coach Herve Coudray allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Desmond Quincy-Jones (201-85, college: Pace) answered with 24 points and point guard Julien Sauret (184-81) added 6 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists in the effort for Vitre. Caen moved-up to eighth place, which they share with 8 other teams including defeated Vitre. Caen will face higher ranked Aix-Maurienne (#6) in Aix-les-Bains in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
