Regular Season Round 3: Breakers - Kings 74-62

New Zealand Breakers used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from Sydney 74-62 on Wednesday night. The game was mostly controlled by New Zealand Breakers. Kings was better in second period 18-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. New Zealand Breakers dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Kings' 30. They outrebounded Kings 48-24 including a 17-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was New Zealand guard Corey Webster (188-88, college: Lambuth, agency: Beo Basket) who scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. New Zealand swingman Thomas Abercrombie (198-87, college: Washington St., agency: Priority Sports) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Four New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. New Zealand Breakers' coach Dean Vickerman used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international power forward Julian Khazzouh (209-86) who recorded 13 points and 8 rebounds and American guard Marcus Thornton (193-93, college: William & Mary) added 18 points and 4 steals respectively. New Zealand Breakers will face Cairns Taipans (#5) at home in the next round. Kings will play against United in Melbourne and hope to win that game.
