Regular Season Round 3: Canberra - SEQ 58-95

Not a big story in a game when Canberra Capitals (0-5) were outscored at home by SEQ (3-1) 95-58 on Thursday. The game without a history. SEQ led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Canberra Capitals' 32. They outrebounded Canberra Capitals 46-26 including a 34-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for SEQ especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 62.5 percentage. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Nadeen Payne (188-93) who led the winners and scored 27 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Guard Lauren Mansfield (170-89, college: Iowa St.) accounted for 15 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists for the winning side. The former international center Abby Bishop (189-88) came up with 16 points and 9 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and the former international guard Stephanie Talbot (188-94) added 15 points respectively for Canberra Capitals in the defeat. Canberra Capitals' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. SEQ will meet at home Sydney Uni Flames (#4) in the next round. Canberra Capitals will play against Boomers (#7) and look forward to get finally their first victory.
