Charleville-Mezieres used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Poitiers 78-70 on Friday night. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 23-19. But Poitiers won second period 16-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Charleville-Mezieres won last quarter 22-15. They made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Charleville-Mezieres outrebounded Poitiers 49-31 including a 37-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Naturalized Central African power forward Maxime Zianveni (198-79) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners and American Christopher McKnight (201-87, college: Akron) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side American point guard Darrin Dorsey (188, college: Dakota Wesleyan) responded with 19 points and Pierre-Yves Guillard (201-84) scored 10 points and 9 rebounds. Four Poitiers players scored in double figures. Charleville-Mezieres will face Denain Voltaire on the road in the next round. Poitiers will play against JL Bourg and hope to win that game.
