An exciting game was played in Melbourne. United faced Cairns Taipans. Host United (5-0) defeated guests from Cairns (2-3) 89-80. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Cairns Taipans won fourth quarter 22-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Strangely Cairns Taipans outrebounded United 46-33 including 31 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for the former international guard Chris Goulding (192-88) who led his team to a victory scoring 26 points. American power forward Hakim Warrick (206-82, college: Syracuse) helped adding 11 points and 12 rebounds. The best for the losing side was American forward Torrey Craig (198-90, college: USC Upstate) with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds and international guard Cameron Gliddon (196-89, college: Concordia Irvine) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. United will meet at home Kings (#8) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Cairns Taipans will play against Adelaide 36ers (#3) in Findon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
