There was a minor upset in Santander where 4th placed Mondragon (1-1) was defeated by ninth ranked Cantbasket (1-1) 74-63 on Saturday. Cantbasket outrebounded Mondragon 44-22 including a 32-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. American center Chris Matagrano (206-90, college: New Hampshire) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and point guard Alvaro Teja (185-89) chipped in 16 points. Cantbasket's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. point guard Imanol Ceciaga (186-90) responded with 22 points and 5 assists and guard Iker Barbero (192-92) scored 9 points and 6 rebounds. Cantbasket left bottom position moving up to fourth place in Group A-A, which they share with 7 other teams including defeated Mondragon. Cantbasket will face league's second-placed Pielagos in Renedo de Pielagos in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Mondragon will play at home against the league's leader Ardoi and hope to win that game.
